Rackspace provides regular hosting and cloud server hosting. At my current company we’re using their cloud server services for a few of our servers. I can’t honestly say much about them, other that they just run and run and havn’t come across any faults yet. Their customer support is as they call it ‘fanatical’, and I have no reason yet to disagree. Their live chat’s usually fast, no long waiting line, and the person behind on the other side also seems to know his/her stuff.

Rackspace is known as a Red Hat shop, for their cloud servers they do offer a few other OS to use though, see the list below, 64 bit only. The virtualization used is the Xen hypervisor on Red Hat. I wonder when they’ll switch to Red Hat 6 and work with KVM anytime soon.

Rackspace cloud servers are charged per hour and not per month, since you can adjust resources up/down at any given time as you need.

Their control panel is nice and clean, not filled with all kinds of unnecessary stuff, navigation’s easy. Often though it can happen that the admin panel itself is quite slow, so you may need some patience there.

Below is an openssl speed result from one of their cloud servers with 1GB RAM and above’s processor.
